Einhorn, Les

Originally from Cleveland, Les worked his way through school until he obtained a Pharmacy Degree from Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. After working five years in retail pharmacy, he began a thirty-one year career with Eli Lilly and Company. Les and his wife, Ellie, raised thee wonderful children while being active in the largest reform congregation in Cleveland. Among other volunteer positions, Les served two terms (8 years) on the Board of Governors of the College of Pharmacy at Ohio State University. After retiring from Eli Lilly and Company, Les continued to work as a pharmacist in Cleveland until moving to Albuquerque in 2004 where their older daughter, Dr. Barbara Einhorn and her husband, Dr. Todd Goldblum, and family reside. They were soon followed by their younger daughter, Margie Pintzow and husband, Perry, and family and were also joined in Albuquerque by their son, Jonathan. Although retired, Les continues to work part-time as a pharmacist. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Anti-Defamation League of NM, volunteers at the NM School for the Blind, and is now a proud member of the Board of Trustees of the Solomon Schechter Day School. His granddaughter, Zoe, is a graduate and both grandsons, Josh and Zach, are currently students.

 
Flicker, Rabbi Arthur
Ex-Officio

Arthur Flicker is Rabbi of Congregation B’nai Israel in Albuquerque, New Mexico - a position he assumed in August of 2002. He received his bachelor’s degree in History from Northwestern University in 1971 and his master’s degree from Ohio State University in 1990. He received rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Reuben Luckens in 1989. Rabbi Flicker has served congregations in Tyler, Texas, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Columbus, Ohio. He has had numerous articles published, is a member of the Rabbinic Cabinet of the United Jewish Communities, a member of the American Association of Rabbis and served on the Board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Albuquerque. Rabbi Flicker services as an Albuquerque Police Chaplain. In 2002, Rabbi Flicker was awarded the Martin Luther King Spirit Award by the Baptist Ministers Conference of Greater Cincinnati. Rabbi Flicker has been involved with the school since he first arrived in Albuquerque and serves as rabbinical adviser to the board.

 
Garin, Lori

Lori is the owner of Weaving Web Designs, a firm specializing in web development and internet marketing. Prior to founding her own company, Lori was a programmer and systems analyst in New York and New Mexico. She has been an advocate of Jewish education since her daughter’s experience at Solomon Schechter Day School. “My daughter’s life was greatly enriched during her years at SSDS by the school’s academic excellence as well as through the Jewish values and perspective taught there. All students at SSDS are enveloped by the nurturing instructors, rabbi, and school principal. The ethical foundation and confidence the kids develop are impressive.” Lori has served on Jewish Federation’s Allocation Committee and this year will be working with JFNM to draw in young families that previously have not been exposed to the funding JFNM champions in order to “repair the world” in both local and global communities. Regarding SSDS, Lori “… wants to help ensure the success of the school so it can provide other children with an experience as positive as the one my child had there.”

 
Greenberg, Shira

Shira Greenberg is the Founder and Artistic Director of Keshet Dance Company. Through Keshet, Ms. Greenberg’s choreography and programming have been recognized nationally and locally by the Peter F. Drucker Foundation, the National Bravo Network, the Albuquerque Arts Alliance, the New Mexico Women’s Forum and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Multicultural Council which honored her for “creating an environment where the medium of dance is used to build cross-cultural and social bridges to every aspect of society.” She has been recognized by the New Mexico Business Weekly’s “40 Under Forty,” honoring professionals under the age of 40 in the State of New Mexico who “stand out in their fields and are engaged in their communities making New Mexico a better place to live;” and in 2009 was honored as Women of Influence by the New Mexico Business Weekly. Also in 2009 she received a Governor’s Award for Outstanding New Mexico Women by the Governor’s Commission on the Status of Women and was honored at the White House by First Lady Michelle Obama as a recipient of the prestigious Coming Up Taller Award by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. Ms. Greenberg began her formal dance studies with the Minnesota Dance Theatre under the direction of Loyce Houlton. After graduating as a theater major from Interlochen Arts Academy with honors, Shira attended Ithaca College and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 1996 she created Keshet Dance Company in Albuquerque, New Mexico with the mission “to inspire passion and open unlimited possibilities through the experience of dance by uniting professional dancers with the community.”

Vice President

Roberta received her B.A. in Chemistry from the University of New Mexico and her MA in Adult Education from the University of New Mexico. Roberta works for the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility as the Water Education Coordinator. She has served on the Board of Trustees for Congregation B’nai Israel and also served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Jewish Federation of Greater Albuquerque. Roberta is currently a member of the New Mexico AIPAC Council and the proud grandma of a student at Schechter.

 
Lipkowitz, Stuart
Past President

Stuart Lipkowitz was born and raised in New York. He attended public schools and graduated from the City College of New York with a Bachelor of Science in Ethnomusicology. He subsequently studied violin making and was the co-owner of Lipkowitz and Lacy Musical Instruments. He has been a union organizer and worked as a head chef. His Master's degree (in literature) is from the University of Delaware. He studied Klezmer violin with Leon Schwartz--one of the last remaining, European born Klezmer violinists. Since 1995, he has worked at Albuquerque Academy as a teacher of history and English. He is also the coordinator of the year-long diversity project at the Academy--designing programs to introduce the Academy community to important people and issues in the areas of politics, culture, and the arts. He heads the Kompanye ensemble--a group that plays music and song of the late 19th and early 20th century from the Yiddish speaking world. His wife, Stephanie, also works at the Academy as director of curriculum development and as head of the English department. They have two children, one is a graduate and the other attends SSDS.

Peacock, Deborah

Deborah A. Peacock received her B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 1978 and her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1985. Deborah was admitted to the New Mexico Bar in 1985 and the Colorado Bar in 2001. She is a Registered Patent Attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is also a registered Professional Engineer in New Mexico and Colorado. Since 1988, along with Jeffrey D. Myers, Deborah has headed the largest group of intellectual property attorneys in private practice in New Mexico and in most cities in the Southwest. Prior to practicing law, Deborah worked in the mining industry in the United States and Tasmania (Australia). She was employed as a metallurgical engineer and front-line foreman at several mining and metals processing facilities. Deborah is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, Albuquerque Economic Development, and New Mexico Amigos. She is on the Boards of Solomon Schechter Day School, Explora (1st Vice President and Past President), Association of Commerce and Industry, New Mexico Angels, New Mexico Women’s Forum (Treasurer), New Mexico Engineering Foundation, and Georgia O’Keeffe Museum Women of Distinction Committee. She has received the prestigious Samaritan Counseling Center's New Mexico Ethics in Business Award, the Quality of Life Legal Employer Award, the Governor's Award for Volunteerism, the YWCA "Women on the Move" award, and the New Mexico Business Weekly Power Broker and Women Who Mean Business awards. Deborah has previously served on the Jewish Federation allocations committee. Deborah is a well-known and experienced intellectual property practitioner, and has been so recognized by inclusion in Best Lawyers in America, is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell and the only intellectual property attorney in New Mexico listed in Super Lawyers (certifications derived from national lawyer survey). Her primary areas of practice include licensing and other intellectual property agreements, intellectual property and business strategies, angel and venture capital investment in technology companies, patents, trademarks, and copyrights.

 
Pintzow, Margie
President

Margie Pintzow grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. She received a BA in Political Science at Miami University. Later, Margie earned her MEd in Early Childhood Education at Georgia State University. In 2002, she and her family moved to Albuquerque. Her husband, Perry, has a software company, and her two children, Josh and Zach, are currently students at SSDS. Margie is serving her second year as a Schechter Board Member and Kehilla President.

 
Ruskin, Stephen

Stephen Ruskin holds a Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University and has taken accounting and business course work at University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. His accounting career spans two continents including working as Controller at Dinstuhl’s Famous Candies in Memphis, TN and at HOPE, Inc., a mental health facility in Tucson, Arizona. His family moved to Israel where he was a staff accountant with Don Shrensky in Jerusalem. Moving back to the United States and to Albuquerque two years ago Stephen joined the Hinkle and Landers, PC as a staff accountant. Stephen is married with two children, one is a graduate and the other attending SSDS.

Weil, Dr. Kathryn
Head of School

Dr. Weil came to Solomon Schechter as the Head of School in July, 2001. She retired from her position as Assistant Superintendent for Accountability and Information Services with the New Mexico State Department of Education. An Albuquerque native, Dr. Weil has served in the Rio Rancho School District as Principal of Lincoln Middle School and Assistant Principal of Martin Luther King Elementary School. She was the Testing Assessment Coordinator for Albuquerque Public Schools for 8 years. She has held a part-time faculty position at the UNM College of Education. Dr. Weil has 10 years of experience as an elementary school counselor at various schools within the APS system. She holds a Ph.D. from UNM’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction in Multicultural Teacher Education with a major in Early Childhood Development and a minor in Psychology. She also received her MA in Guidance and Counseling from UNM and her BA in Psychology from University of Wisconsin. At one time Dr. Weil also ran the Congregation B’nai Israel Religious School and served as the Education Vice President on B’nai Israel’s Board of Trustees.
