Eligibility

Thank you for your interest in Solomon Schechter Day School of Albuquerque (SSDS).

We warmly welcome children from all branches of Judaism. Since Solomon Schechter is a Jewish Day School and many aspects of the program are designed to establish and enhance a strong Jewish identity, the school is not appropriate for children who are being raised in another faith. Affiliation with a congregation or havurah is not required.

Solomon Schechter Day School of Albuquerque is open to children entering kindergarten through fifth grades. Children must be five years old by September 1 to enter kindergarten and six years old by September 1 to enter first grade. If a child entering kindergarten will not be five years old by September 1, the Head of School and kindergarten teacher will make an evaluation about the readiness of the child for kindergarten. The same process applies to students entering first grade before age six.

If a child joins SSDS in a later grade, after having been in a public or other non-Jewish school, tutoring or level based teaching in Hebrew will be provided to help the child catch up to the level of his/her classmates. Strong Judaic knowledge and Hebrew language skills are not prerequisites.

The school reserves the right to decline admission to a student if the school does not feel it can adequately meet the needs of that child.

Please contact the Admissions Director with any questions you have regarding eligibility and admissions.
